Michael Selleck, DDS, DABDSM

Dr. Selleck grew up in San Jose during the time that the majority of Santa Clara Valley was covered by plum orchards. After graduating from the University of California at Santa Cruz in biology he attended the University of Pacific Dental School in San Francisco.

After graduating from the dental school Dr. Selleck associated with a long time established local dentist in Lafayette until that dentist retired and Dr. Selleck assumed the practice. During that time the practice grew and was known for superior general and cosmetic dentistry. Also during that time Dr. Selleck strove to maintain the highest standards of dentistry which included updating dental equipment to the most modern available to maximize patient comfort and procedures.

15 years ago, Dr. Selleck became interested in the condition of sleep apnea after one of his young friends passed away from the condition. Dr. Selleck immersed himself in learning about the treatment of sleep apnea. Sleep apnea basically is quite common in today’s population and can cause serious side effects. There are several ways to treat the condition, the most common is CPAP which is the method most prescribed by pulmonologists to treat the condition. Unfortunately 60% of the time patients cannot tolerate this method. Another treatment is to construct a custom oral appliance which can effectively alleviate this health affliction.

Dr. Selleck studied extensively all of the research regarding the construction of the many different custom oral appliances necessary to successfully treat sleep apnea. In so doing, through education and examinations he became the first Diplomat of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine in Contra Costa County. This prestigious society is dedicated to improving the lives of sufferers of sleep apnea. This appointment precipitated Dr. Selleck being listed in Who’s Who in America and also named as one of America’s top dentist.

During leisure time Dr. Selleck and his wife enjoy the company of their five children and seven grandchildren and is an avid animal and pet advocate and owner. He is a dedicated swimmer and several years ago swam across the Golden Gate. Both he and his wife are dedicated Golden State Warriors fans.
